Dates & reminders

Write dates the way you’d say them. Nomima turns them into live pills, tracks them across your whole vault, and can ping you when the moment arrives.

Date pills

Type a date or time in plain words and, the moment you follow it with a space, comma, period or Enter, it becomes a date pill. Recognized phrases include:

Type the date in plain words; the space, comma or period after it turns the phrase into a live date pill.

Where dates show up

Every date pill is tracked vault-wide, automatically:

Reminders

A reminder is a block with a countdown and a desktop alert. Insert one with /reminder.

Setting one up

  1. Type what it’s about in the label — e.g. “call mom tomorrow 3pm”. The label is normal rich text: mentions, hashtags and date pills all work inside it.
  2. Make sure the label contains a date pill — that’s the due time.
  3. Press Enter to arm it. The countdown starts and the label locks so you can’t nudge it by accident.

Reminder states

StateWhat you see
IdleNo due time yet — the label is fully editable and shows a “Remind me to…” placeholder.
RunningA live countdown ticking down to the due moment.
OverdueRed, showing how long ago it fired (“2h overdue”). It stays visible until you act — reminders never silently complete themselves.
DoneThe label greys out and is struck through, and the block gets a #complete pill carrying an “Incomplete?” toggle to reopen it. (Reminders are dismissed by completing or deleting them — there’s no separate cancelled state.)

Desktop notifications

Reminders fire real macOS notifications — and they work even when the note is closed. Nomima checks every 20 seconds in the background, fires each alert exactly once per due time, and clicking the notification brings the app to the front.

Where overdue items surface

Nomima has no separate notifications bell. Anything due or overdue surfaces in two places you already use — the badges on Home and the Alerts lens in Smart View.

Nomima has no notifications bell — due and overdue items live in the Alerts lens and on Home’s badges.

Date pill vs. reminder — which one? Use a plain date pill when you want something tracked (it shows in agendas and turns red when missed). Use a reminder when you want to be interrupted at that moment with a notification.
